Homer Davis holding his son William Harvey Davis Sr. — c. 1943
Homer Edward Davis (1900–1982), in shirtsleeves and suspenders, standing in a yard and holding his young son William Harvey Davis Sr. (1941–2022). William, born August 1941, is a toddler of about a year and a half to two here, which places the photograph around 1943 — Homer at about forty-two.
William Harvey was the youngest of Homer and Bessie’s four children and the only son, after daughters Mary Louise, Dorothy, and Betty. This frame — a confirmed father-and-son image — also settles the identity of the child in the companion c. 1944–45 photograph of Homer with a small boy on his knee: the son is William Harvey. It is the first photograph of William Harvey Davis Sr. in the archive, and now his page portrait.
