Leonard Eesley with his son Tommy — c. 1932

A candid outdoor photograph of Leonard David Eesley — in a beret and a soft sweater, a slim mustache, about twenty-eight — seated on a sunny bank and cradling his small son Thomas Leonard “Tommy” Eesley against his chest. Tommy, born 1 December 1930, is a toddler of about a year and a half here, which places the frame around 1932.

It is a rare early father-and-son frame on the Leonard branch — Charles Leonard’s eldest son with his own firstborn, the “nephew Tommy” who also appears beside his grandfather in the Charles Leonard group portrait and in Aunt Maggie’s Black Lake deck slides of the early 1930s. The setting — a sandy, sunlit bank — is consistent with the family’s Black Lake, Michigan summers of those years.
