William Clifford Wildermuth Family Studio Portrait — with Flora Schlicher and two of their sons, c. 1915

Formal studio portrait of the William Clifford Wildermuth family of Marietta, Ohio, c. 1915. Four figures — the parents and two of their sons. Per Chuck Eesley’s July 2026 face-tagging:

• Seated, center — William Clifford Wildermuth (b. 1866, d. 1943), the father, in a three-piece suit with a lapel pin. About fifty here.
• Standing, left — his wife Flora (Schlicher) Wildermuth (b. 1870, d. 1919), in a dark dress with a white lace bodice. This is one of the last images of Flora before her death in November 1919.
• Standing, center-back — their son William Wildermuth (b. 3 April 1896), the taller young man, about nineteen. (He has no page of his own in the archive yet.)
• Standing, right — a younger son, a boy of about sixteen — most likely Earl Adam Wildermuth (b. 1899), Chuck’s great-grandfather, though this identification is not yet locked (see note below).

A correction (July 2026)

A previous version of this entry mis-identified this photograph as Edward Frederick Wildermuth’s family (Edward, his wife Arminda Jane Hayes, their son, and the matriarch Catharina Boeshar). That was wrong — there is no elderly seated matriarch and no small child in the frame. Chuck’s face-tagging confirms the picture is William Clifford Wildermuth’s own household: William Clifford seated, his wife Flora Schlicher standing at left, and two of their sons standing. Edward Frederick, Arminda, and Catharina Boeshar are not in this photograph — Catharina’s likeness is in the separate c. 1896 family group portrait.

The two sons — to confirm

The older standing son is identified as William (b. 1896). The younger boy at the right is, by age, most plausibly Earl Adam (b. 1899) — which would make this a teenage likeness of Chuck’s great-grandfather — but he could instead be Charles Daniel (b. 1889) or another brother. The exact pairing is an open question pending family confirmation.
