The injured-day texture

Chuck’s own memory of his childhood: “when I was sick and had to stay home from school, I was often either at the Wolfes’ house at 108 Hillcrest or at Faye Angel’s house” (his godmother). A sprained ankle is the kind of stay-home-and-be-watched-over situation that would have routed young Chuck to one of those small-town-extended-family care houses — the Betty and Norm Wolfe house at Hillcrest being the most likely setting given the older-couple-and-dog edge of the frame.

Why c. 1985–1990

Chuck born 1979; a 6-to-11-year-old in the frame puts the photograph at c. 1985 to 1990. The blue Phillips sweatshirt is consistent with a youth-sports or camp branding of the late 1980s.

What this frame records

A documentary frame of the sick-and-injured-day caregiver network Chuck has named across Betty’s, Norm’s, and Faye Angel’s pages — the actual lived texture of a Marietta boy resting his sprained ankle with a family dog at his feet while the elder couple of the household kept him company. The kind of family-care arrangement that runs three generations on the Davis side and that Betty’s obituary frames as her lifelong arc.
