Betty Joan (Wildermuth) Haddox
also known as Betty Wildermuth, maiden; Mrs. Haddox; the youngest Earl-Adam-Wildermuth child
b. 1935-07-17, Marietta, Washington County, Ohio
d. 2018, Ohio (specific place open research)
Betty Joan (Wildermuth) Haddox was the youngest of Earl Adam Wildermuth and Sadye Irene (Fleming) Wildermuth’s five children — born 17 July 1935 in Marietta, Washington County, Ohio, the late child of Earl and Sadye’s marriage. She was thirteen years younger than her eldest sister Ruth Irene and ten and a half years younger than her brother Robert Earl (Chuck’s grandfather), arriving in the same Depression-era household as the Wildermuths’ youngest.
Her sibling cohort was:
- Ruth Irene Wildermuth Ridenour (b. 29 April 1922)
- Robert Earl Wildermuth (b. 1924)
- Carl Edward Wildermuth (b. 5 July 1928, blind)
- Norma Jean Wildermuth Gault (b. 14 September 1930)
- Betty Joan Wildermuth Haddox (b. 17 July 1935) — this page
She lived through the war years as a child (8 when Robert Earl shipped to the Pacific, 10 when V-J Day came), the postwar years of her brother’s Stanford studies and Air Force return, and the long arc through her parents’ deaths in 1976 and 1977. She married a Haddox; her husband’s first name and any children are open research.
She died in 2018, age 82 or 83 — the longest-surviving of the five Earl-Adam-Wildermuth siblings. Her death came forty-one years after her father Earl Adam’s, forty-two years after her mother Sadye’s, twenty-nine years after Carl’s, eleven years after Norma Jean’s, and a year after her niece Terrie Lee Wildermuth Bain’s May 2017 death — closing the Earl-Adam-Wildermuth generational line on the paternal Wildermuth side of Chuck’s family.
