Eva (Schmidt) Schlicher
also known as Eva Schmidt, maiden
b. 1837-12-29, Bavaria, Germany
d. 1915-10-24
This is the mother of the Schlicher children — wife of Theobald “David” Schlicher and mother of Flora, Emma, and their four brothers (George, Daniel, David F, and Edward).
Her name is now settled: Eva Schmidt
An earlier version of this page carried her name only tentatively, because Dale Eesley’s GEDCOM family record (@F56@) named Flora’s mother as “Eva Schmidt” while another “Eva Schmidt” appeared elsewhere in the tree — a transcription tangle that left the identification unconfirmed.
The Schmidt family-history sheet and 1899 obituary in Chuck’s keeping resolve it independently. Eva Schmidt was the daughter of the Bavarian farmer John Jacob Schmidt (1817–1899) and Eva Barbara (Bourtine) Schmidt; she was born 29 December 1837 in Bavaria, came with her family to Washington County, Ohio in the late 1840s, married Theobald David Schlicher on 20 January 1861 at Marietta, and died 24 October 1915. Her father spent his last year in her and David’s Greene Street home and died there in January 1899. That documentary chain confirms she is the Schlicher mother, and the GEDCOM tangle can be set aside.
She is Chuck’s ancestor on the Schlicher line: Eva → Flora Schlicher Wildermuth → Earl Adam Wildermuth → Robert Earl Wildermuth → Terrie → Chuck.
Sources: family-history sheet “John Jacob Schmidt” and the transcribed 26 January 1899 Daily Register obituary (Chuck’s keeping), which name Eva (Schmidt) Schlicher with her birth (29 December 1837), death (24 October 1915), and 20 January 1861 Marietta marriage; Eesley/Wildermuth GEDCOM tree family record @F56@.
