Mabel Lee Sunn

also known as Mabel Lee, maiden

b. ~1900, United States

Mabel Lee Sunn was born around 1900 in the United States and married Koon Hung Sunn; their daughter Stella was born in Honolulu in October 1925. In 1940, age forty, she arrived in Honolulu aboard the SS Monterey, recorded on the Hawaii passenger lists (Affiliate Publication A3422, Film 221, Passenger Lists of Vessels Arriving at Honolulu, Hawaii, 1900–1953). The record’s “Immigration” event-type is the standard label for any inbound passenger arrival, residents and immigrants alike; given her birth in the United States, this is almost certainly a return after travel rather than a first arrival.

Mother of Stella Elaine Sunn Chong, Chuck’s family’s wartime addition; grandmother — through Stella — of Sue Lin and Glenn Chong. Her parents and earlier life are not yet recorded in this archive.
