Thomas Chenoweth

Thomas Chenoweth was born 6 September 1828 in Harrisburg, Franklin County, Ohio — the older brother of Joseph Hill Chenoweth (Chuck’s great-great-grandfather) and therefore Lillie Dale Chenoweth Eesley’s uncle. Their father was Elijah Chenoweth, Jr., the Franklin County farmer-patriarch of the Ohio branch of the Cornish-American Chenoweth line. Thomas died 17 July 1908 in Harrisburg, age 79, and is buried in Westerville, Franklin County, Ohio.
He served in the Union Army during the Civil War with the rank of Corporal, one of three Elijah Jr. sons to serve on the Union side (the others were Joseph Hill and John Wesley Chenoweth). The specific regiment, the dates of enlistment and discharge, and any wartime correspondence are open research; Ohio Civil War rosters and the FamilySearch military-records collection could fill in the detail.
He married twice: first in Madison, Ohio on 25 January 1853 (the GEDCOM does not yet name the first wife), and second in Pickaway, Ohio on 1 February 1876. His son Chauncey “Chant” Chenoweth — Lillie Dale’s cousin — eventually moved to California; Roberta Burnes’s June 2026 email surfaces the September 1922 Lillie-to-Len letter in which Lillie asks her son Leonard to visit “Chant” during his solo cross-country car trip to the West Coast.
