Dorothy Hauser

Dorothy Hauser was a friend of Peggy McMaster Eesley — Charlie Eesley’s mother — and a member of Mothers for Peace, an organized American anti-Vietnam-War mothers’ group active in the late 1960s and early 1970s. She is the likely recipient of Charlie’s 1 January 1971 letter from Da Nang, whose closing line — “Say hi to the Mothers for Peace for me. Charlie.” — anchors her affiliation with the group.

The letter sits in a wider Eesley-side anti-war network of the period that also included Peggy’s 10 February 1971 congressional letter to Congressman Clarence Miller and Don McMaster’s bail-money offer for Terrie at the post-Kent-State Maryland campus. Dorothy Hauser’s role in that network was the grassroots-organized women’s-peace-movement piece.

Her dates, her home address, her years in the Mothers for Peace organization, and the texture of her friendship with Peggy are open research. The 1 January 1971 letter is the primary-source document this archive holds.
