Flight Officer John McDonough
Original bombardier of Robert Earl Wildermuth’s B-24, 400th Squadron, 90th Bomb Group, trained with the crew at Gowen Field, Boise, Idaho in late 1944. From St. Louis, Missouri.
Before the crew shipped overseas, F.O. McDonough was reassigned to additional bombing training at Langley Field, Virginia — per Robert Earl’s memoir, the crew was “informed that we would be assigned a new bombardier and that F.O. McDonough would be put in some new bombing training at Langley.” He was therefore not part of the Pacific tour itself, but is part of the documented Gowen Field crew roster.
His subsequent Air Corps assignments and post-war life are open research.
