Chuck teaching entrepreneurship in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam

Chuck teaching in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam — the city his father knew as Saigon. He is standing before a seminar room of students at the UEH International School of Business (UEH–ISB), microphone in hand, under the school’s Leadership Program banner and the UEH University sign; the projected slide reads “Ignite Your Business Potential with Entrepreneurship.”
The frame is a quiet generational bookend. Charlie Eesley shipped to Saigon in 1969 as a twenty-two-year-old soldier and rotated out in 1971; the Letters from Vietnam are that year of his life, and he never wanted to go back — when Chuck was visiting the city decades later and called home, Charlie, on the other end, declined to come. A generation on, his son returns to the same city not at war but to teach young Vietnamese founders how to build companies — the family’s entrepreneurship-as-research-program carried into the country the father had crossed an ocean to fight in. Same place; the opposite errand.
