Ann Dunbar

Ann Dunbar is Chuck’s maternal four-times-great-grandmother — the ancestor the Wildermuth & Bain book singles out by name, heading her register entry “Dunbar, Ann” with the bracketed note “[Terrie Lee (Wildermuth) Bain’s great (times 3) grandmother].” That editorial aside is the book’s own confirmation that this Maine-born woman sits on Chuck’s direct maternal line.

She was born in 1812 in Maine and married John V. Dunbar (b. ca 1804). The couple raised their family first at Readfield, Kennebec County, Maine, then moved to Bull Run, Wood County, (West) Virginia between the 1850 and 1860 censuses. Ann was still living in Wood County at the 1870 census, age 58.

Her maiden name has not yet been recovered — the register lists her only as “Dunbar, Ann (née ?).” Recovering it, and her parents back in Maine, is the open end of this branch.

Her children

Ann and John’s nine children were Vernum Augusteen (1834), Seth G. (1837 — Chuck’s direct ancestor), Josephine C. (1839), Virginia W. (1841), James G. (1843), George H. (1845), Mary C. (1847), Abbee D. (1849), and Thomas I. (1851). Through Seth — and his daughter Verona Belle (Dunbar) Fleming — the line runs to Sadye, Robert Earl Wildermuth, Terrie, and Chuck.
