Pearl Wildermuth

Pearl Wildermuth was the twin sister of Earl Adam Wildermuth — Chuck’s great-grandfather. Per the family GEDCOM, Pearl was born 5 October 1899 and Earl Adam was born 6 October 1899, the two birthdates one day apart in Marietta, Washington County, Ohio. The two-birthdate split is consistent with twins born across midnight, or with a small GEDCOM transcription difference.

The Wildermuth-side family record — previously framed Earl Adam as a single child with siblings — can now be reread with Pearl as his twin sister: the seventh and eighth of William Clifford and Flora Schlicher’s nine children, two siblings sharing the first twenty months of life and growing up together through Marietta’s 1900s and 1910s.

The 1899 birth context

The Wildermuth family in early October 1899: William Clifford (32), Flora (35-ish), their four older surviving children — Mae Clara (13), Charles Daniel (10), Margaret Zelma (7-8), Emma (5-6) — and a recent infant loss in William Jr. who had died December 1897 not even two years old. The twin birth of Earl Adam and Pearl in October 1899 came as a double-blessing after the infant loss two years before. Twin survival in 1899 small-town America was not guaranteed; that both twins survived their infancy is the first piece of luck the family had had since the late-1897 loss.

Pearl’s later life

Pearl’s later life is open research. Whether she lived to adulthood, married, had children, or died in childhood or young adulthood is not yet recorded in this archive. Her dates of death and burial are open in the GEDCOM. If she lived to adulthood, she would have been Chuck’s great-grandfather’s twin sister; her descendants (if any) would be among Robert Earl Wildermuth’s first cousins on the paternal Wildermuth side.
