English

Details withheld — living. Family member by marriage on the Zhou side — the wife of Zhaozheng Zhou, Lijie’s paternal great-uncle. Her name is recorded in pinyin in Dale Eesley’s FamilySearch tree; the Chinese characters and the surname/given split are pending family confirmation.

She and Zhaozheng had three daughters, all born in Yangxin County during his posting there: Zhou Yan and Zhou Wei, twins born in 1970, and Zhou Liang, born in 1976.

She was a medical professional in her own right, and not a local: she was assigned to the Yangxin County Traditional Chinese Medicine Hospital on her own graduation, the same system of state placement that had sent her husband there. The two of them met in Yangxin.

That makes this a marriage between two people the assignment system had deposited in the same remote county. She was already at the county hospital when he transferred in from the township hospital at Zhaiwang in 1974 — in her daughter’s phrasing, “我妈妈所在的阳信县中医院”, the county hospital where my mother was. For the first seven years of his time in Yangxin they worked at different hospitals.

She came back to Qingdao with the family in 1991, when the transfer her husband’s nephew Zhou Ling had spent years arranging finally came through. Both she and her husband then worked at the Fushansuo Hospital in Shinan District (青岛市南区浮山所医院) — a detail worth stating plainly, because it means the transfer moved two medical careers back to the city, not one. See the dinner-table recording.

Source for the 1991 return, both hospitals, the 1974 transfer and the daughters’ birth dates: Zhou Liang, by WeChat, 20 and 21 September 2026.
