Frederick Ullmann
b. 1854-05-28
d. 1940-10-28
Frederick Ullmann (1854–1940) was the father of Clara Victoria Ullmann — the wife of Harvey Hendershot Hill and mother of Chuck’s great-grandmother Bessie — and of Ida Jeanetta “Nettie” Ullman. He is Chuck’s maternal great-great-great-grandfather on the Ullmann line.
He was born 28 May 1854 and died 28 October 1940. With his wife Elisabeth (Bode) Ullmann (1854–1930) he had eight children, per the family GEDCOM: Magdalena (1871), Minnie Louise (1879), Fredrick William (1881), Henry Edward (1883), Clara Victoria (1885), Laura Carolyn (1887), Ida Jeanetta “Nettie” (1892), and Bessie Edna (1894).
The probable family group portrait
Frederick is probably the bearded elder man seated at the center of the c. 1912 Ullmann family group portrait, with Elisabeth beside him and their grown children around them. This identification is a working guess, not yet confirmed — the print carries no label — but the seated couple’s ages fit Frederick and Elisabeth in the early 1910s, and Chuck’s read is that it looks like Frederick.
