The Will and Peggy Eesley family with Joe Kamiab — c. 1965, around Jeanne and Joe's June wedding
The Will and Peggy Eesley family at the moment Jeanne brought Joe home — a formal indoor portrait of the six-of-them plus Joe Kamiab, made around Jeanne and Joe’s June 1965 wedding. The family snapshot of Will and Peggy with all four of their children and the new son-in-law who would marry their eldest daughter — the marriage Charlie’s 12th-grade autobiography names specifically.
The cast (queued for confirmation)
Front row (seated):
- Margaret ‘Peggy’ McMaster Eesley — the mother, in a dark sweater with curly hair, hands folded on a coffee table that holds magazines.
- Wilbur ‘Will’ Eesley — the father, the Marietta architect, in a dark suit and tie with glasses.
Back row (on the couch), left to right — confirmed by Chuck Eesley June 2026 that Jeanne sits next to Joe:
- Charles ‘Charlie’ McMaster Eesley — far left, blonde buzz cut, dark shirt — Chuck’s father, then about eighteen, between the 1965 high school graduation and Marietta College. The face that matches the c. 1965 Marietta HS cross country team photo and the next decade of Vietnam-era letters.
- Anne Eesley — second from left, dark wavy hair, plaid jacket — the second daughter.
- Margaret ‘Maggie’ Eesley — middle, light-haired girl in white sweater — the youngest, about thirteen or fourteen.
- Jeanne Eesley — fourth from left, light short hair, dark top, beside Joe — the eldest daughter, about to be or just-married to Joe.
- Joseph ‘Joe’ Kamiab — far right, dark curly hair, light vest over dark shirt — Jeanne’s husband, the new addition to the family in this frame.
Why this date
Charlie’s 1965 12th-grade autobiography tells us Jeanne married Joe Kamiab in June 1965. The ages of all four children in the frame fit that year almost exactly: Jeanne mid-twenties, Anne about nineteen, Charlie eighteen, Maggie thirteen-to-fourteen — the same year Charlie graduated Marietta High School. The portrait was almost certainly made at the wedding or in the surrounding weeks, in the family’s 651 Sixth Street house or nearby.
What this frame captures
The last family portrait of the original household before it began breaking up into adult lives. Jeanne marries; Charlie goes to Marietta College and then Vietnam (1969–71); Anne moves on; Maggie completes the round of college after them. Will continues remodeling 651 Sixth Street and then designs and builds the Highland Ridge Road house. The six-with-Joe-Kamiab portrait holds the moment the family was, just before it became its many later configurations.
